The Foundation of the World

The dress made

from the giant’s skin

was quietly displayed

in the royal hall.

That night,

the tailor looked up

at the glowing fabric

and whispered:

“This isn't a hero's treasure.

It is the skin

of the only friend

who ever protected me.”

Eventually,

the giant departed

beyond the mountains,

and only the small town

remained within the kingdom.

But when we change

our perspective,

we can see one truth.

The kingdom

that the people had built

stretched across

the footprints

left behind by the giant

long ago.

Sometimes,

we live our lives

without truly knowing

the foundations

on which we stand.

And yet,

people build cities upon them,

form friendships,

and dream of kingdoms.

These small human endeavors

may be nothing more

than specks of dust

compared to the vastness

of the world.

And still,

somehow,

they are

astonishingly beautiful.
